It's Time.

Since my cancer diagnosis, I have developed a ritual of walking to greet the lake. I have lived blocks away from this lake for over 15 years, and in the past I would sometimes go months without seeing it up close. Now, on most mornings, I walk to greet it. What a blessing.
On these visits, I notice how the air feels that day, and how it manifests in the motion of the water. I notice the clouds in relation to the sun. This short daily walk sets me up to notice nature. And that is what I hope to carry with me throughout the day. It’s a simple thing. And it’s a profoundly different way of being with and engaging in the world. I am an eager student.
I’m also inspired by Grace Lee Boggs, late revolutionary social activist, author, and philosopher. At nearly 100 years old, she wrote “I want to challenge people to think philosophically. I want people to ask themselves and each other what time it is on the clock of the world.” Along with her husband, Jimmy Boggs, she visualized 3,000 years of human history on a 12 hour clock where every minute represents 50 years. They argued the age of revolution was only 5 minutes old.
They advocated for ‘visionary organizing’ rooted in re-imagining not only structures and institutions, but also ourselves and our relationships. Yes! Let’s reconsider it all. I am ready to be in service of the divine energy of the universe and the creation of a society that centers around the ‘notion of a more human human being’.
For me these days, that looks like tuning into my body, knowing I am not separate from it. It looks like less Type A to do lists and more moving from intuition and a deep sense of being alive. It looks more relational. It is authentic connectivity with other dear ones, where I am able to bring my whole self. It feels glorious and I’m so grateful I get to experience it at this particular moment in time.
Onward.
