Cycles and Intentions

This summer I celebrated my second birthday post cancer treatment. My trip around the sun ushered in sweet moments of me being seen and cherished by my loved ones. It was delicious. In addition to grounding in gratitude for being alive, this year I’m also reflecting on setting intentions for how I want to live moving forward.

I am at a stage in life where I’m coming fully into my own. My own power, my sense of myself, my body, my purpose. And at the same time the world is going through havoc and literally burning. Canadian wildfire smoke is creating hazardous air conditions in more than a dozen states, impacting millions of people.

How does one swim through life in the midst of the larger waves of the world? I am reminded of the words of late Vietnamese Buddhist Zen Master Thich Nhat Hahn ‘We have more possibilities available in each moment than we realize.’ I want a full, fun, clever, layered, heartfelt, authentic, deep, beautiful, and triumphant personal life. There is an abundance of possibilities I can choose each day to move me along that path. And it is important to me to do this as an informed and responsible global citizen. I will not ignore the harm that greed is having on the world and its inhabitants. I will not shy away from the grief. Or the beauty. Let's go sun. I'm ready to orbit around you another time.
